This course is about understanding the Mental Capacity Act and its 5 core principles and how to apply it in your role. The Mental Capacity Act is designed to protect service users from abuse of their human rights but also protect Care Workers and other professionals to ensure any assistance they may offer in decision-making is warranted and appropriate. This course will help you assess and understand where and how support can be offered.

The learning outcomes from this course are as follows:

  • Have a full understanding of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA).
  • Understanding human rights in relation to the MCA.
  • Understanding how the MCA keeps people safe.
  • Learning how to assess a person’s capacity.
  • Learning what does ‘best interest’ mean?
  • Being able to support a person in making decisions.
